Back when I was younger I got big into Hip Hop. Especially the whole 4 elements, not just rap. I started breaking, tagging, and even bought a set of silver Technics 1200 MK2’s. There I was in 2002 with 3 crates of records, 2 turntables, a ghetto mixer so I could crossfade, and I was clueless. I got my hands on some VHS tapes and downloaded some videos off of kazaa or limewire or maybe even napster. I caught a glimpse of the X-ecutioners and instantly wanted to be like Roc Raida. He would spin, beat juggle, turn around and crossfade with his back! I failed miserably at Dj’ing but I’ll forever be a fan of Hip Hop, I mean hey, I still break to this day.
I’m late on this because I’ve hardly had any time to follow hip hop and music news, but Roc Raida passed away over a week ago. I usually don’t get all into this R.I.P. - celebrity stuff, because none of them had any direct influence on me and what I’ve become. But this one brought me back to being 15 again.
R.I.P. Roc Raida.
