There really isn’t much to say except that DJ Flict and The Return of the Dream Team are definitely a musical act you have to look out for. I’ll let the picture’s speak for themselves. Their first show and they’re already doing big things.
Oh… and here’s a music video from one of the opening acts. I personally hate Lady Gaga but this is hilarious!
So this year at cakedout we started a new tradition “The Paper Toss Championships”. Mikey, Brian, Jason, and I were the participants. This is pretty much stuff that happens behind the scenes at the office when we’re not working. Just a way to relax and showcase our paper tossing abilities. Next year we need a trophy or belt.
*Warning: Video contains a lot of Ooo’s and Ahh’s*
Just got back from checking out a little rehearsal session with DJ Flict of Return of the Dream Team. They’ll be doing their first show tomorrow laced up with some Cakedout gear at The House Of Blues Anaheim. If you’re from the So Cal area chances are you’ve been there. Which means you know they’re doing it big if that’s where they’re throwing their first show. So if you’re bumming around with nothing to do Saturday night then get your ass out there, you can find me there with the rest of the Cakedout crew.
Giant Robot is having their exhibition over at Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, CA from January 21 through the 24. This was their Biennale 2: 15 Years Closing Event. It is really sad to see them go, but the show brings the history, art, and direction that they have been through and puts it on display for all to see. If you would like to know which artist did which piece you should check out the show.
Attention to detail was key for this piece. You can see the whole image on the video below.
A few friends and I planned a nice day trip to the Getty Center in LA. Having only lived in California for a year and a half, I can’t say that I’ve fully taken in the area. But this weekend I checked off one thing from my Cali To-Do List: Visit the Getty.
The architecture? Exciting.
The weather? Beautiful.
My favorite museums are still the Uffizi and the Louvre, but having van Gogh, Monet, Manet, Degas, David, Turner, Gericault, and Toulouse-Lautrec 45 minutes away is pretty killer. Not to mention there’s a Rembrandt Exhibit on display till February 28th(No pictures allowed though, bummer).
Finally back in the states and still getting adjusted to the time. Mostly when people go to Hong Kong they go to the night market, shopping, and eating. Well I did all three, but you can only do that for so long. I recommend to go sight seeing especially when a lot of the gardens and temples are free. One of the temples that caught my eye was when I visited Shan Men ( also known as mountain gate) and for a breathtaking view of the city taking a bus up to Victoria Peak is your best bet.
Here are some pictures from my plates from the Marriot Buffet. It equals Vegas and surpasses a lot of the one’s there *cough* *cough* RIO.
Yes I ate all of this, but it’s not a vacation if you don’t go all out.
Have to eat a little healthy
I also sang a little bit while I was over there. The karaoke experience is a lot better than in the states, but the problem is limited selection in English. Luckily if you want to sing some Ja Rule you can HOLLA HOLLA.
Shan Men (Mountain Gate) - Shan Men translates to the “three gates”, referring to Buddhist wisdom, compassion, faith, understanding and practice, the important methods to gain liberation.
If you ever stop in Hong Kong you should stop by Victoria Peak grab a bite and take in the view.
Sorry if dancing isn’t your cup of tea, but I had to post this video! I got back into competitive dancing during 2009 and this video is definitely an inspiration to get better. Crazy moves and a lot of musicality all over this video. Can’t wait to see the dance world progress even more in 2010! Enjoy!
Besides the Dragon’s Treasure here are some more things that I found interesting in Macau.
I know it’s a little late, but happy holidays from the pandas.
St. Paul’s Ruins (Church of Mater Dei)
This site was amazing to me because it is in the middle of all these shopping centers yet you stand in awe of the site. It feels just like in the movies when looking at it because your mind focuses on the ruins and all sound around fades out.
This looks just like any regular horse head statue, but this piece is the “Bronze Horse Head of Haiyantang in The Summer Palace”. This set a world record for any Chinese Qing sculpture being purchased at $8.9 million US currency.
While on my vacation in Hong Kong I stopped by the lovely Macao. This is a major tourist attraction for the neighboring Asian countries and is considered their version of Las Vegas. I can say that it compares to the quality of Vegas, but not the amount of hotels that it has. While stopping by there is a lot to do besides gambling, but I did come up in roulette. There is a lot to see including old temples, churches, and a must to stop by the fisherman’s wharf. I’ll post pics later, but thought I would show you a little something from the City of Dreams Macao resort. I saw the amazingly presented slightly repetitive “Dragon’s Treasure Show”. The show is displayed in a circular dome that I would say holds the max of 300 people maybe more and is a nicely presented, but the problem is each dragon they show does the same thing. The dragon comes to life grabs the pearl of wisdom and brings you to his world. It was cool the first two times, but by the fifth dragon I was no longer surprised. Watching this video will save you money so you don’t have to visit the City of Dreams for this.
