Waking up in a city that doesn’t sleep

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

California!!! I’m back. I spent the last two weeks running around the northeast, and I must say I’m both happy and sad to be back in Socal. Most of my time was spent doing free labor for my mom, but during my free time I went from sailing the New England coast, to clubbing in New York City, to walking Newbury street in Boston. Now that I’m back, its grind time. We have some big things cooking up for the future, so stick around a while. It’ll be worth the wait. For now, check out some of the scenery from my trip to New York.

Doughboy Doughboy

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Been wrapping up Vol 7 & 8 lately, but today I took a time out to take a look back on some of our favorite designs of Vol 6. One of my favorites was the Doughboy graphic. The concept came about after I watched the Brooklyn video by Jay Z. The video is a little long, but it was something different and refreshing from the usual rap videos of girls, cars, and clubs.

Check it out if you haven’t seen it.

I really wanted to incorporate this style and figure out who we could use for the graphic. I talked with some of the guys over here and David brought up how we are pushing the “doughboys” as you’ve seen in our previous volumes, so we thought, why not use the movie character?

With the powers combined and Mikey’s skills, we have the final product. The attention to detail is intricate and well thought out.

Cakedout goes to White Castle

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

While in the New York area, I just had to do this. It’s only right!! After getting lost in the city, we passed a White Castle and immediately busted a U-turn. The face-stuffing commenced shortly.

Got Kush

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

I know what everyone’s thinking and I don’t mean that type of kush. This is the gift to get your girlfriend/significant other for any special occasion.

Today was a good day

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Lately I’ve been looking around at sneaker shops and online blogs and nothing has been exciting me lately. I’m sure everyone is doing the same we all have a list of bookmarks of blogs and we skim through until something catches our eye. Its been everywhere, but for those that haven’t seen it this is an awesome video promoting the P Rod III.

The shoe is very clean in person.

Release date this Saturday.

Home sweet home…

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Still out here on the east coast. Bear with me, people! This upcoming week has a lot in store. I’ll be heading up to Boston for a bit, as well as New York city for 2 days. But so far, this week has been hell.

I wake up in the morning, and this is waiting for me outside. Everyday, new brushes, new rollers, new paint buckets.

After that, it’s on to gardening. The mosquitoes are lovin’ on my dark skin!

Next on the agenda is usually something along the lines of ripping out old sinks and floors. Somehow, we broke apart a huge porcelain coated, iron bath tub, built in 1939.

This may seem irrelevant to the brand, and it really is. But! What, do you think we sit in an office 24 hours a day!? When it comes down to it, family is first. So when your mom asks you to fly across the country to break iron bath tubs, don’t be a little bitch about it.

Just find effective ways to deal with it.

The Laboratory

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

My friend Cassie works for this brand you may have heard of called Oakley. She gave me a tour and boy howdy was I blown away at their headquarters. As you approach the building you feel as you are walking into Area 51.

As soon as you walk in you will notice these futuristic electric chairs. In reality they are just really cool ejector seats for jets.

Normal meeting rooms are usually in a room. Not for Oakley they have an auditorium.

Thanks again Cassie for the tour. Cakedout will have a facility like this one day … one day.

Vacation!

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

On Monday, the crew bid me farewell as I got ready for a 2 week vacation back on the east coast. But little do they know, it’s not much of a vacation. I’m over here renovating one of my mom’s properties.. which means I’m working the same amount of hours I did back in the office, except now I’m painting and dying in the humidity.

Good bye, California.

Welcome home.

A Night at Detroit

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Last Thursday night we stopped by the Agenda/ Hellz Bellz after party. It was hot and really hard to move around. Besides the typical girl to guy ratio at a bar there, were some interesting creepos.

First creepo appeared as I was trying to take pictures of the crowd. Check out the eyes of determination to be in the picture.

Second creepo appeared next to the lovely ladies of the night, Julia (triumvir) and Mink (Hellz Bellz).

And to top if off I was able to snap a pic of Jesus. I guess the holy one needs a night to relax. The man next to him saw the light and was blinded.

Thanks to Hellz Bellz and 80s purple for a great night.

Whats the Agenda

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

We stopped by Agenda Tradeshow over in Huntington Beach.

We first met up Dennis and Don (Karmaloop) before walking the show.

Alex and Chris (IMKing) were going over the upcoming dunkxchange event that they are part of. We shall be there.

The event was short and sweet with a great view.
