Lazy Mondays

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Mondays are always a little hectic around the office. From the creative team grinding away at the designs to the marketing team getting to the piled up e-mails from the past weekend, everyone can always afford to take a five-minute breather to catch their breath. We thought it would be fitting to hop on Youtube and pull a few chill songs from the 90’s considering that it’s been a huge inspiration for our collections. Shut your eyes, grab your drink of choice (we suggest a 40 for the mood if you’re of age,) and just kick it to these beats.

Souls of Mischief- 93 ‘till Infinity

Nas- Take it in Blood

Lil’ Troy- Wanna be a Balla

Pete Rock & CL Smooth- Carmel City

A Tribe Called Quest- The Hop

Black Star- Thieves in the Night

Funkdoobiest- Rock On

Volume 8

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Our theme for Volume 8 was mainly influenced by 90’s style west coast hip hop. A good example is the use of the D.A.R.E program design that we all grew up with, flipped to a harsher reality. The phrase that “drugs rule everything around me is not me discussing illegal narcotics, but if you take a look around hospitals and pharmaceutical companies are springing up everywhere and seem to be doing fine in this recession we are having. For electric relaxation we flipped the famous image to something more humorous by having him give the thumbs up while getting electrocuted to comment on the ironic glorification of trouble making that was huge back then. Without getting into too much detail take a look at the rest of the collection.

Thanks,

Just for Kicks

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

My dive into sneakers, or should I say my addiction was a nice roller coaster ride (especially for my wallet). If it wasn’t for my interest in sneakers, I probably wouldn’t be doing what I am today, so it’s a love/hate relationship. I first stumbled upon sneakers after going to hip hop sites and I was fascinated how it blended different cultures (hip hop/ punk mixed with surf/skate and had a statement) into one group. It was amazing to me because I was seeing graphics and garments done in a different manner compared to what was out at the time. I think the best part of this culture (sneakers/streetwear) is similar to how the documentary “Just for Kicks” described it as a culture that makes you feel unique in a world that expects you to be like everyone else. My addiction to the sneaker culture isn’t as bad as it used to be, but every time I come home I am constantly reminded not to over indulge. The worst part is that this is just one wall, there are three more and this isn’t as bad as some of the other addicts out there. You know who you guys are.

We be grubbin

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

You know how most of the buffets in Southern California are usually garbage compared to Vegas buffets? Well I have finally found a contender that can hang pound for pound with them. Cafe Sierra in LA has the variety and quality between the Rio and Bellagio Buffet.

They have a pasta and a taco bar. I had a custom pasta with pesto and alfredo sauce mixed with chicken, diced zucchini, mushrooms, and garlic. The prime rib was excellent!

There’s a lot to choose from including crab legs, lamb, Chinese food, sushi, and also for the ladies… DESSERT.

This was just a third of the dessert area, there was also an ice cream and cake section.

After the meal I went to Universal City Walk and found an interesting new craze. Waxing your hands is the next best thing. Who wouldn’t want a wax version of their hands to place somewhere in their home. Where can I sign up?

The B

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

This past weekend I was lucky enough to attend Burton’s The B screening. This screening was one of their stops from their tour over at their office in Irvine, CA and I was amazed by the interior of their office.

All Aboard.

They even had a corner that was decorated like the arcades I used to go to. Those were the good old days now the console has surpassed the arcades.

I heard about this event through an associate and what sold me to go was that there was going to be an in-n-out truck.

Not only was it free food, but it was FREE IN-N-OUT need I say more.

Here’s a trailer of The B movie.

Thanks again for the heads up Cadman.

Going back

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

This DJ by Warren G was one of those classic songs that put West Coast hip hop on the map with his style and sound. Everyone knows the song, but everyone forgets the video. Let us take a stroll down memory lane shall we. Check out the the effects and time put into the video, George Lucas has nothing on this videos transitions. Watch the key moments in the video from :10 - :17 you get to see the many warren g’s especially with him staring at you for the last transition. The other 2 highlights would be 2:15 with the deep voice guy adding some street cred and at 2:33 for an ab transition. I would really like to see the storyboard to this video it must have been insane.

Lunch Time

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

We always have a problem with lunch at work. We start off our day by asking each other “What do you want to eat?” This went on today until 3pm. Everyone at work has been working extra hard. I’m pretty sure you can tell from Mikey’s face.

So using the yelp on the iphone I found this little spot called El Tapatio.

Kenji and I found it awkward that they are selling these limited edition sunglasses that aren’t even in shops yet. Get them at El Tapatio. Mikey always makes me look great in the photos he takes of me. I like looking like a confused idiot.

This place has a banquet room with a nice back patio. The food is ok a little on the pricey side for the amount you get. I recommend the Chile Verde it was tender and the sauce had a good consistency.
