Under the Influence

Under the Influence: Masters of the Universe Tribute Art Show was an exhibition displayed at the 1988 Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. Unfortunately if you couldn’t make the show it is not being displayed anymore, but if you want to see more pictures click here. I stopped by on the last day and was star struck when I laid my eyes on the life size replica of Castle Gray Skull.

The attention to detail can be seen throughout the piece down to the chains.

There were a lot of cool pieces at the show, the following couple were some of my favorites.

After the exhibition we stopped by next door into this comic book shop. Besides the usual plethora of comics they had collectible vinyl figures, comic book sneakers, and some new novelty dc toys. They look as if someone mashed Batman with a mallot.

We also saw a real life smurf on the street. They do exist.

The Getty Center

Monday, January 18th, 2010

A few friends and I planned a nice day trip to the Getty Center in LA. Having only lived in California for a year and a half, I can’t say that I’ve fully taken in the area. But this weekend I checked off one thing from my Cali To-Do List: Visit the Getty.

The architecture? Exciting.

The weather? Beautiful.

My favorite museums are still the Uffizi and the Louvre, but having van Gogh, Monet, Manet, Degas, David, Turner, Gericault, and Toulouse-Lautrec 45 minutes away is pretty killer. Not to mention there’s a Rembrandt Exhibit on display till February 28th(No pictures allowed though, bummer).

Made me think of Triumvir….

B-Sides of LA

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Besides doing some research in LA and running into what looked like someone bombing a garage sale we had to have a little fun in the fashion district and take a stroll down Santee Alley.

This is the spot if you want to find bb guns, jewelry, apparel, and bags all for a low price. LA always amazes me because everyone knows that sex sells and yes breast implants are common, but do the mannequins need implants? Taking this picture was kind of awkward while the heat of the shop owner’s eyes are staring at me.

Keep moving

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Everything has been pretty hectic for Vincent and I here at cakedout. No matter where we turn, we can’t seem to avoid some kind of mess.

The office to the warehouse, we just couldn’t shake the craziness!

Even when we arrived in LA today, I was greeted by a doggy-pee-pad, and an old pair of new balances.

Tonight, I’m gonna hide away in my sketchbook…

City of Angels

The design team took an early morning trip to LA to begin planning out our 2010 collection. Luckily we didn’t hit any traffic and we were early to all our appointments. Since we got to LA early we decided to get breakfast at Farmerboys. It started out good, but as I’m typing up this post it has not treated my stomach well. I had the breakfast burrito that was tasty, but as I won the battle the burrito won the war.

I should have know something was up when our order number was 13.

For those that have to deal with traffic on a daily basis this man shares the same problems. I found this off of Lerche’s Blog
